Aletha R. Wright
Vision of Hope Center

Volunteers of America Delaware Valley dedicated this shelter in honor of the late Camden city community activist Aletha R. Wright on December 3, 1996. The Aletha R. Wright Vision of Hope Center contains a transitional housing facility for homeless men and a “safe haven” for individuals needing emergency overnight assistance.

The mission is to provide shelter and community based assistance to single adult homeless men. By addressing specific problem areas, clients are encouraged to re-enter communities to live productive, self fulfilled and independent lives.

The Transitional Housing program seeks to empower homeless adult males by increasing their self-sufficiency through a task-centered case planning and management process. The program includes counseling and case management, life skills classes, drug and alcohol intervention, education and employment referrals, recreational enrichment and transportation.

The Safe Haven program is designed to serve homeless men who have a history of chronic mental illness who need shelter. The main purpose of this program is to create a safe environment in emergency situations, and establish a feeling of trust between the client and the program. Additional services include case management and counseling, life skills, drug/alcohol referrals, employment and educational referrals, housing placement and recreational enrichment.
