Eleanor Corbett HouseVolunteers of America Delaware Valley opened Eleanor Corbett House, a family shelter in Gloucester County, in February of 1990. The mission is to shelter and support homeless families and single women, and offers a safe and clean environment as they achieve their goals. Eleanor Corbett House is a 35-bed facility that houses women and children in need of temporary housing in semi-private rooms. The Gloucester County Board of Social Services refers most residents. This includes homeless women and families of any age who are mentally ill, domestic violence victims, and substance abusers. Each family is assigned a case manager who is trained to offer counseling in the areas of housing, education employment, mental health and family and legal issues. Residents are also provided with a daily congregate meal, workshops, life skills training, Bible study, special events, food assistance, transportation and other supportive services during their stay. Eleanor Corbett House, formerly known as Carpenter’s House, is located at 948 Whig Lane Road in Elk Township, NJ This program was renamed for it's longtime director and employee Eleanor Corbett in December of 2003. The Safe Haven program has the capacity to serve 9 homeless single women experiencing mental health issues in semi-private rooms. Families are provided with 24 hour supervised housing, 3 meals a day, emergency clothing and case management. We provide life skills workshops, drug and alcohol awareness, recreational activities, a referral network and child enrichment activities. Our single women residents receive 24-hour supervision, meals, case management and counseling. A variety of programs are provided to assist the women to develop the necessary life skills to achieve and lead self-fulfilled independent lives.
At the Safe Haven Program, residents receive 24-hour supervision, case management and counseling. We work with our clients to address the social, psychological, educational and chemical addiction issues so that they can become stable and prepare to reintegrate to society.
