MAHAN-WOOD NAMED SURVEYOR BY ACCREDITATION AGENCY

The Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) has accepted  Antionett Mahan-Wood into its ‘surveyor’ program and will train her to conduct assessments of human services programs nationwide.

The director of quality assurance for Volunteers of America Delaware Valley, Mahan-Wood will undergo extensive preparation – including a week-long ‘boot camp’ at CARF’s Arizona headquarters – before she becomes part of a survey team. CARF is one of the largest peer accreditation bodies for human services programs; in 2008 the nonprofit organization accredited all of the corrections programs of Volunteers of America Delaware Valley.

“For me personally, this means I’m considered an expert among my peers,” said Mahan-Wood, adding that the application process for surveyors is rigorous as well as competitive. She also said being a surveyor will enable deepen her knowledge of best practices at other organizations and also will provide insights into CARF standards.

The latter could prove especially valuable given that Volunteers of America Delaware Valley aims to become entirely CARF-certified by 2011.
