Commissioner Pays a Visit

NJ Department of Human Services Commissioner Jennifer Velez and Raquel Mazon Jeffers, Director of the state Division of Addiction Services, accepted an invitation to tour the Aletha R. Wright Vision of Hope Center and the Anna M. Sample House Complex on November 7.

Steve Shultz, vice president of public policy for Volunteers of America Delaware Valley, said the two state officials asked a number of questions about the multi-faceted services offered to clients in the two programs. President and CEO Daniel L. Lombardo also briefed Velez and Jeffers about Volunteers of America Delaware Valley’s plans to expand substance abuse treatment programs.

“Our organization has a unique approach to social services in New Jersey, as the Commissioner and the Director were able to see first hand,” Shultz said. “The staff at both Aletha Wright and Anna Sample should be commended for their professionalism in hosting our guests, and for their knowledge of the issues our clients face every day.

“By showing rather than simply telling what we do, we offered the Commissioner and the Director a new perspective on how we help men, women and children,” Shultz added. “We showed why our programs are the best in the state.”
